The New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) boasts a rich history of professional development, technical excellence, and community engagement. Formed in late 1973, the chapter was spearheaded by Andy Ciffer, along with a determined group of engineers and industry affiliates who shared a vision for advancing the plumbing engineering profession within the state. Through the dedication and teamwork of this founding group, the required minimum of twenty potential members was not only achieved but exceeded, culminating in the installation of thirty seven charter members who laid the groundwork for what would become one of ASPE’s most active and enduring chapters.

From its inception, the New Jersey Chapter has placed a strong emphasis on fellowship and professional growth, values that have continued to define its success. Among the most cherished traditions born from this spirit is the annual chapter golf outing. In 1991, the chapter hosted its first golf outing, marking the beginning of what would become a beloved annual event. Now, as we approach our 35th annual outing this coming May, the tradition stands as a testament to the chapter’s longevity, sense of community, and commitment to giving back.

Over the decades, these golf outings have evolved into far more than recreational gatherings. They have become cornerstones of community engagement, networking, and fundraising, bringing together engineers, manufacturers, representatives, and industry partners in support of a common goal. The proceeds from these events have consistently contributed to the chapter’s continued success and growth, helping strengthen its presence and impact within the plumbing engineering community.

Each year, the outing continues to embody the same spirit of collaboration and goodwill that defined the chapter’s founding, reminding us that both on and off the course, success is built through teamwork, shared purpose, and a drive to move our profession forward.
